Full Title - The Order of the Birds Shall in Turn Kill the Owl

He sat there in complete darkness, waiting, waiting. He meditated, listening for anything that would indicate something. Finally, the door at the other side of the room opened and behind it stood the silhouette of a man. He opened his eyes. It was clear that this man was wearing a business suit, glasses probably shades, he looked fairly muscular and had a short haircut. This man closed the door behind him again enveloping the room in complete darkness.

He heard the footsteps come closer and closer to him and finally stopped straight in front of him. He stood up and the man said in a deep voice "Look." He heard his footsteps walk away from him into the far corner of the room and he heard a faint click. A lamp turned on and it revealed a desk and chair. The desk appeared to be made of the finest oak available, a rare commodity these days and the chair is something one would expect to find in an office, one of those cheap-looking swivel chairs except this had leather instead of that synthesized stuff they always use.

He sat down and the man, hidden in shadow, gave him several notebooks, a pack of pencils, an eraser, and a pencil sharpener. "Write" he commanded in that eerily deep voice of his. "Why?" he said to the man but he just ignored him and walked away. His footsteps got farther away until he got to the door. He opened that door all the way and it creaked all the way, a long deafening howl that only metal can make. For that iota of a second, he could see clearly who this man was and he looked strangely familiar, though he swore he had never seen this man before. This man slammed the door behind him, again putting him in darkness except for the tiny amount of light the lamp gave which was just enough for him to see what he was doing. He began to write.
An introduction to a dream-inspired story.
